Local Musicians Launch First Annual St. Louis Songwriters Playing it Forward, September 30th

Four-Hour Festival Showcases Eight Songwriters, Benefits Play it Forward St. Louis

Local songwriters have come together to organize the first annual St. Louis Songwriters Playing it Forward, a new music festival featuring eight songwriters, on Saturday, September 30. The festival begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Hosted by Babes Tavern and Garden in Lindenwood Park in South St. Louis (3215 Ivanhoe Ave, St. Louis, MO 63139), St. Louis Songwriters Playing it Forward is staged in the lot across the street from the iconic neighborhood establishment. Additional businesses in the Ivanhoe Business district are also supporting the cause, including Killer Vintage Guitars, Vinnie’s and Bubbas Deli.

The festival shines the light on local songwriters playing to make a difference in this four-hour concert that benefits Play it Forward St. Louis. Play it Forward is a St. Louis based nonprofit organization with a mission to ensure each child in St. Louis is provided with the opportunity to discover his or her musical talents.

Festival goers are encouraged to bring their gently used instruments to the concert to donate to Play it Forward. (no pianos please) Attendees also can donate funds to the organization at the concert or online through the event website.

“St. Louis has so many talented songwriters that many people don’t know about,” said the festival’s organizer and local songwriter, Greg Barrett. “Giving songwriters an avenue to share their songs in a festival format and supporting Play it Forward combine to be the driving force behind then event.”

The songwriters featured in the first St. Louis Songwriters Playing it Forward are: Barker Thompson, Scot Randle, Sooz Kim, Greg Barrett, Lakin Barrett, Jason Krena, Eric Keeney and Sinead Angele.

Donations can be made on our GoFundMe page.
