As a music enthusiast, musician, and DJ based in St. Louis, I’m a big fan of the work of Play It Forward. I’m saddened when I hear all too often that funding for the arts in our schools is being cut. Considering the amount of research showing the value of arts and music education to child development, it seems odd and even bizarre to hear about local and national fund administrators decisions to support athletics and other extra curriculars over arts and music education.

I routinely visit New Orleans – at least a few times a year – and I’m overwhelmed by how many youngsters there find playing in the band just as cool as being an athlete. This is why is I am a big fan and supporter of the efforts of Play it Forward. I can only hope that they receive the vital support they need to keep arts and music alive in a city like St. Louis, where our identity and music history is so rich. Putting instruments into the hands of the children is a very important first step to maintaining St. Louis’ great music heritage.

Sincerely,
