Pat Liston
My name is Pat Liston. I am the leader of the St. Louis-based recording artits, “Mama’s Pride”. For the sake of credentials, Mama’s Pride was with Atlantic records in the 70s and our music is still being played on radio stations around the world. We toured extensively with numerous famous artists of that era. My brother Danny shared the stage with me as well. We both are still active musicians, recording artists, and writers. Our mother was a musician, as were several people on both sides of our family. Our love for music and the desire to engage in it came from our very early exposure to it. I see so few young people that actively participate in music the way we did. My guess is, they don’t have the exposure that we were blessed with. It’s the 21st century and people don’t sit around the house and sing and play instruments as they once did…… so, where will the exposure come from now? It has to come from outside sources. If it does not, I fear the type of great artists of the past will be no more. I believe, with all my heart, that we should encourage the youth of today with music of all genres so that they have the opportunity to, at least, know it’s there….. and taste of it themselves. It is unthinkable, to me, to imagine the world without fresh new music the caliber of, the Beatles, Buddy Holly, Glen Miller, Stephen Foster, or a Johann Sebastian Bach…. it has to be nurtured at the earliest age possible!! Anything that can be done to this means is never wasted!!
